Made with black beans, a simple flax egg, and your choice of oat, breadcrumb, or chickpea flour, these patties are rich in protein and packed with texture. Perfect for burgers, wraps, or salads, they’re a quick, flavour-filled meal for anyone craving something bold and different.
- 1 can 400 g black beans, drained & rinsed
- 3 Tbsp ground flaxseed + 6 Tbsp water flax egg
- 3 Tbsp Biltong Style Marinade
- ½ cup binding option choose one:
Oat flour → for a lighter, wholesome patty
Breadcrumbs → for a firmer, more traditional burger texture
Chickpea flour → for the firmest, protein-rich patty with a slightly nutty taste
Prepare the beans Mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture. Make the flax egg In a small bowl, combine flaxseed and water. Let stand 5–10 minutes until thick and gel-like. Mix the pattie base Add the flax egg and Biltong Style Marinade to the beans. Stir in your chosen binding flour (oat, breadcrumbs, or chickpea flour). Mix well until combined. The mixture should be sticky but hold its shape. If too wet, add a little extra flour. Shape & chill Form into 4–6 patties.
